Your First Murder Mystery

New to Murder Mystery Parties?

If you have never played or run a Murder Mystery Game before, don't let this hold you back. They are great fun. Ours do not come in “Boxed” form. You can buy them online and download them from this site, ready for you to print out. You then have all the information and instructions you need to run your own murder mystery party.

Most of our games are designed so that everyone has a character to play on the evening. They come with a chart showing which characters you can use, depending on the number of guests coming. Some characters are male, others female – and some are unisex. Some time before the event, you send out invitations so that each guest has a few lines of information about their character. Enough to get a costume if they want to and enjoy thinking about who they are going to be.

On the evening, different plots work in slightly different ways. Downloading the free introduction for each game will give you an idea of each plot-line before you buy. Typically, the host will hand each guest their character name badge at the start of the night. The host will then introduce and set the scene with help from the game’s step-by-step guide. Soon after, guests are given their own "private and confidential" character notes to read. These are never more than one sheet of paper. They tell the guest what secrets their character has, their motivation and their objectives. In some games, guests also get props and money to use in the game to blackmail, bribe and otherwise grease the wheels.

What ensues is an interactive evening of fun, deception, investigation and accusation. The guests tend to work independently and in different ways but are usually put into teams when deciding who they think is guilty. For some, the game is mainly about playing a character. For others it is mainly about solving a murder. For yet others, it is mainly about people watching and enjoying how the story develops. During the game, your step-by-step guide will help you to bring in new clues and moderate the pace at which the plot unfolds. You then round everything off with a dramatic denouement, arrest and prize giving.

We get excellent feedback from people new to our games. Your first murder mystery is unlikely to be your last!
